Ozzie

He is more than a cat to me.  He is my trusted companion.  We've been together for twelve years now and through all the happy and sad moments in my life, I can always count that he is shadowing me.  I adopted him from the Siamese Rescue Organization on 10.05.2013 when he was three years old.  From the start, he imprinted on me like a bodyguard.  He is always following me wherever I go.  When I'm away from home, he looks out the window or front door waiting for my arrival.  I can always count on him to be there for me.  His presence looms larger than life for he invades every aspect of my physical whereabouts.

Yesterday, his health dramatically changed.  I took him to the veterinarian after bouts of vomiting and diarrhea.  Blood test confirmed elevated enzyme levels predictive of pancreatitis.  How he acquired it may range from his gusto for eating and therefore lifestyle indicated to an unknown bacterial infection.  For now, he is on a carefully selected diet of chicken pate with low fat content and the prescriptive cocktail of pain medications with antibiotics.  The veterinarian gave a guarded not highly optimistic perspective of "watchful waiting" for 2-3 weeks.  If by some measure of a miracle, he pulls through and returns to his prior level of function, this health episode is but a warning and not a death sentence.  But if he begins to decline then, the most humane alternative is euthanasia.

Today, I celebrate him as the ever present companion and friend who provided me the reassurance when things change that he is there for me.  I hope and pray that I can give back to him all the love and care he showed me throughout his life.
