Beliefs about God

How did you conceive God?  What was the shining emblem of your belief?  Where did you draw your spiritual energy?  How did you pray?  These were facets about you that I learned in the first five years of our marriage.

Your beliefs about God were simple and expressed in nature.  Although raised as a Baptist, your childhood memories of spirituality were steeped in religiosity - Sunday observance, the church songs, bible studies, and the rote prayers.  As your mind awakened to larger pieces of reality, you simplified your concepts of God.

You saw God everywhere in the eyes of a stranger or in the littlest of ants.  This perception made you compassionate.  When you were working at the Department of Treasury in Washington, DC you would often stop by to give your last buck to a homeless man.  Even when you didn’t have the money to spare, you would give your precious time just to be with the person.  You acknowledged the presence of divinity in people, places, things, and events.

Your prayers were in your deeds.  They were incantations of thanks mostly.  They were simple and joyous manifestations of a grateful heart.

Thank you, God.
