Destiny

What cosmic forces were at work that brought us together?  We are from two different worlds and yet somehow, we found each other of all places in West Virginia in 1990?  The mystery lies in our past long before we even knew of each other’s existence.  It was written as old as time itself in the annals of Destiny’s progeny - a seed of chance waiting to unfold.

My initial exposure with foreigners was in the rural moorings of the University of the Philippines in Los Banos.  It was my first year away from home in college.  I distinctly remembered that there were a handful of foreign African students who extended more than passing interest which I did not reciprocate.  

I had a singular purpose then — to complete my education and find my way in the world.  I was never invested in forging extracurricular activities although this experience stood out memorably.  Why was I attracting a particular type of person culturally different from my expectations?  

If this was mere coincidence, this memory will remain buried in my subconscious.  And yet, when I realized you were the “one,” it was as if this memory jolted me to a deeper understanding that the preparation for meeting you was at hand.  This seed of acknowledgment between two souls was waiting to blossom at the right time and with the right person.  Kismet brought us together in the most unlikely time and place — all we needed to do was to open our hearts.
