In Stillness
Lambent beauty rouses me in the quiet of early dawn when darkness still bathes the room. Your presence hints a sweet perfume wafting the cold air, pressing into my mind like a soft caress. Lord I strain my ears to hear what you say and in whisper I heard. Wake up and pray.
You are the first thought that runs through my mind in my solitude. I rehearse the words I hear in the gospels letting its imprint clothe my soul. This incantation is my prayer. I recite your words allowing it to consume me. Your word is food that nourishes my spirit and gives me the strength to face the day.
Your daily visitation is not lost to me. Before this world claims me in its churning busyness and work, you oh God make it known that I am first your child. Your love is manifest in the stillness of my heart. I thank you for never leaving me even in my deep slumber. I am grateful for your promise - you are not alone. I am with you always.
