Waiting
“So may the God of hope fill you with every joy and with peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope and in the virtue of the Holy Spirit.”

Ages ago, in my wee mind I sat waiting for my mother to come home. The purple skies darkened around me and I was gripped with fear. What if something happened along the way, a misfortune that no one could avoid? What will become of me? What will it be like without the mother who toils daily so that ten mouths would eat?
I was shaken to the core not fully comprehending the possibility of fated loss but I hoped and in a faint voice prayed in silence. "Please God don't allow anything bad to happen." As if the heavens strained its ear to catch the muted prayer, my mother arrived with heavy bags of food in tow. She looked very tired but seeing me waiting patiently outside must have lifted her spirits. She acknowledged my presence as I helped her with her load.
Even then, I knew God is present though His shadow I did not see.
