Continue to Veria then Meteora

A

fter a stop over in a local restaurant in Veria, we proceeded to the St. Paul monument.  The mosaic painting on the wall shows St. Paul teaching in the city of Veria.

We are off to Meteora in the afternoon and will stay in the hotel thereafter.  There is a 1.5 hour drive from Veria to Meteora.  A short nap is competing with the temptation of staying awake to see the rest of the countryside.

The people here harness solar energy using panels and heating tank up on the roof.  The typical architecture includes a veranda as land plots are scarce.  People hang wet clothes in the veranda for the sun to dry these naturally.

We drove through mountainous terrain and arrived at the foothills of Meteora in the city of Kalabaka.  Along the way are many shrines in memory of those who lost their lives navigating the very narrow and curved roads warning the living which places to tread carefully to avoid the perils ahead.

While preoccupied with the scenery, Eleni played Greek music in the background composed by native and famous musicians/composers.  I felt like we were on a cautious but hopeful adventure where valor awaits the courageous and the brave with the Conquest of the Paradise music wafting in the air.

I could imagine brave soldiers the likes of Alexander the Great trekking through these mountains while seeking to conquer European lands to consolidate strength and power across the region.

Then she played Yani’s music filled with excitement, expectation, and hope as we ascend higher into the mountains.  I was carried by unseen angels as I climbed the heights of the heavens seeking the face of God.
