Thanksgiving 2023

The weather turned out to be bright, sunny, just a tad chilly at 50 degrees and the wind wasn't blowing.  It was nice to see the leaves on the ground remain within the length of the yard not crazily dancing its way to its neighboring perimeters.

After church services, my daughter and her friend took me on a 1 hour drive to Loudon county in VA where my sister lives.  There was no traffic to contend with.  It was a big reunion for the family.  I saw my youngest brother whom I have not seen in 30 years and we made up for lost time basking in each other's company.  He is on a short visit here in America and will go home on Dec. 1.

Below is the lechon (roasted pig) substituted for the old time favorite for this day - the humble turkey!  It was more expensive than initially expected - the smallest size at $700 good for 50 people. There were less than 25 kinsfolk in attendance and that meant there was plenty of leftover food to take home.

Nobody wanted to take home the pig's head.  We all lost that instinctive silent communion between hunter and prey.  When you get to eat food over processed beyond its original natural state, somehow a woeful beast with its grotesque form on a dinner plate no longer whets the palate.  Unless of course, we are talking about the Silence of the Lambs.
