Amalia Hotel

W

e stayed at another Amalia hotel in Delphi much improved than the one in Kalabaka.  We arrived at 7:30 pm off by 30 minutes from the plan.  We were designated room number 446 although there are only 3 floors in the hotel.  It is one of those head scratching moments when you are used to counting room numbers associated with the floor numbers and you find out that is not always true.

We hurriedly went down to eat as we saw several tourist buses arrived and a throng of people descended weary and hungry from the long trip.  Remember that the tourist buses have to go through very narrow, winding roads with little room for error as it runs across the mountains.

With little sightseeing stops along the way as the roads do not have any parking spaces for that, apart from praying, sleeping, hushed talking there is very little to occupy the mind but the next stretch break or food.

Amalia hotel did not disappoint.  The food seems to be getting better at every hotel we stayed in.  The better hotels, I imagine command the higher price as well.  When we go to Athens, we will be staying at a 5 star Marriott hotel.  Every leg of this trip seems to be an upgrade in accommodations which makes it interesting.

Tomorrow we can sleep longer because our early mass at 7:30 am has been moved to a church service planned when we get to Athens in the afternoon.  We are staying at this hotel only for the night.  There is an anticipated 1.5 hour drive to Athens.  I wondered what activity is planned while in the bus.

Today’s afternoon activity was on the 12 Greek mythology gods - Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Hephaestus, Hermes, Poseidon, Hestia, Dionysus, and Hades.

I know I named 14 instead of 12 but remember room 446 on the 3rd floor?  I think it is one of those Greek “gotcha” games to see if you are paying attention.

It is now 9:26 pm and I still need to prepare for tomorrow since this is just an over night stop.  I am sure my homesickness will abate after a restful sleep.  Good night.
