40 Days of Lent
Stay with me Lord/
As I journey through the arid desert of life/
No companion beside me except for You/
I may not see your face/
But your voice rings clearly in my mind/
And your holy words lettered into the Scriptures/
Beckoning me to stay the course/
Though my eyes cannot see further than my nose/
I feel a welling hunger from the pit of my soul/
I hunger and thirst for you, Lord/
Temptations like mirages distorting my vision/
These worldly ways enticing me to dance to its wild tunes/
To leave behind the sanctum of your Spirit/
To fill my emptiness carousing with all that it has to offer/
Power, pleasure, honor that belong to you alone/
Lord, keep me focused and centered/
Help me flee with faith soldiering on/
Give me the grace to be strong/
And the courage to resist the sweet ambrosia/
To divine your ethereal nature/
To surrender to the cross/
And the sacrifice of praise be only offered to you/
All the days of my life.
