My Life is not My Own
“Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps. Discipline me, Lord, but only in due measure— not in your anger, or you will reduce me to nothing.”
Jeremiah 10:23-24 NIV

My wanton desire to control every aspect of my life is a practice for fools. Have I not yet learned the senseless occupation of my youth to charter the skies and winnow the billows of my own lofty ambitions? My life is not my own. You oh God direct my steps even as I craft my latest plans. It is your purpose that wins out even as I stray away with my own willful inclinations.
I am humbled by this revelation. That a speck of dust I may be among the innumerable grains of sand that is humanity; each of these lives are moved, churned, repurposed according to the grand designs that you mapped. Not that we are mere puppets following an inescapable fate but the fulfillment of what our choosing eventually leads us. To your heart if we cling to you with faith and belief or in our eternal dissolution cast out forever from your grasp.
