The Tongue

The tongue is a small yet powerful instrument.  It can praise and exalt, at the same breath crush and tamp down spirits.  How often in my life I wish I had kept my mouth shut.  Once loose, the words that come from the mouth become the source of joy or pain.

Lord, God help me to put some reservations and thought before I open my mouth.  Let the words that come from within me be a reflection of your grace in my life.  Let me keep silent when I don’t have anything to say in peace and love.

Help me to keep my lips from uttering words that are hurtful.  In its stead, make my words be a fountain of inspiration for others.  Forgive me for all the times I was careless and even heartless with my words.
