The Hour is Near

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭13:11-14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When I look around me, I see things changing fast - the climate, nature of relationships, morality, and the marching sounds of judgment.  Unpredictability of the weather shows the earth groaning by the weight of irresponsible living.  People becoming more distant and lonely in spite of the disputable touted virtues of social media.  The abasement and degradation of the moral code - murder, mayhem, civil disobedience, leaders intent on serving their own political purpose, sexual depravities, human slavery, addictions, social ills and many more sins normalized and reduced as consequence of living life in the 21st century.

Where good is, you can also find the cancer of evil chipping at its very core.  Evil is profound immorality explained away as merely an alternative perspective, a gradation within a broad spectrum of human nature.  How do you explain the evil of abortion rationalized as family planning?  How do you reason that sexuality “male and female as God ordained” is a lifestyle choice that even children may deliberate upon and pursue?

Oh God, what is happening to the world that you created?  Help us.  Open our hearts and minds to wake up to the truth that evil is tightening its grip on our very soul.  Forgive us for failing to live up to your commandment of love.  Lead us to the life you intended, in holiness and in reverence for your might and glory.  You can smite us all with just a word and yet your mercy and love give us daily opportunities to repent and begin a new day.  Let that hour come that all your people will convert, return to the nature by which you purposed.  Let your kingdom come.  Let your will be done.
