Lessons from the Hungry Syrian Wanderer

I don’t know why I hit the subscribed button but I can’t peel myself away from this vlogger from the Philippines.  How I came about on this video journal was first just a curiosity.  The video blogger was videotaping his adventures and his unabashed love for the Philippines and the Filipino people. And that was unusual because he is not native born.

Basel is a foreigner born in Syria who studied in the Philippines and now is a successful owner of Yolo Retro Diner.  He loves the people and this country and choose to show positivity, empathy, kindness, and love to everyone he meets along the way.  He goes all out spreading goodness and happiness to others.

I thought to myself there must be a catch somewhere - a hint of hidden evil, some inner motive that may be nefarious.  I doubted that there is a person who can be truly genuine in their abundant generosity and kindness.  I watched many of his vlogs and I cannot help but admire this man’s spirit.

If there is a lesson to learn from this man, it is that whatever station in life we are in, it is within our power to do good, to aspire for it, and to make it our daily communion.  Holiness and ascribing to its virtues are not impossible tasks.  As Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, “do small things with great love.”

I want to share this man’s vlogs because it is inspirational.  In a world marred with chaos, dog eat dog mentality, how about a little spark of joy that comes only from giving love away?
