Love Your Enemies

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

Lord, I searched my heart and I can’t say that I have enemies.  There is no one that I hate.  I used to be judgmental when I was much younger but the years have taught me better.  It is not good to keep a grudge.  More so, it is not good to plant hatred in the heart.  The poison that spews from these hoarding acts will mortally wound relationships if not rob the soul of eternal life.

Instead, I pray for those who do not like me.  I pray for those who hate me.  Currently, there is such hatred for Asian Americans because of the Covid 19 virus and its politicization.  Sometimes I am afraid to be in public.  I saw in news videos Asians who are going about their business sucker punched, slashed in the face, and outwardly physically hated.  I don’t want to get physically attacked because of the hatred in people’s hearts.  Please protect me, oh God.  St. Michael the Archangel, please help me and defend me from all evil.
