The True Leader

“Therefore, all things whatsoever that they shall say to you, observe and do. Yet truly, do not choose to act according to their works. For they say, but they do not do. For they bind up heavy and unbearable burdens, and they impose them on men's shoulders. But they are not willing to move them with even a finger of their own.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:3-4‬ ‭CPDV‬‬

Leadership to many is about influence; leading others to follow.  The words of God teach us what kind of leader we ought to be.  To do as we say is the dictum.

Do I follow my own advice?  Do I live my life as a shining model to emulate?  Or am I full of words that pass like the wind?  Do I burden others with the tasks that I shudder to do?  Or am I simply a hypocrite, charming on the outside but filled with vile poison inside?

The measure of true leadership is in the ability to control our own tongue with a bit and to be a servant to others.   Jesus is the true leader.  He taught us how to live our lives.  If you want to follow me, take up your cross.

Lord, everyday when I work with others help me to control my tongue.  Incline me to be a vessel of mercy and compassion rather than judgment.  Help me lead others by the work that I do, in the service of others rather than the puffery of one.  Jesus I trust in you.
