Jesus Heals the Sick
“When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
Mark 2:17 NLT

Jesus calls sinners to repentance. He leaves the ninety nine in order to look for one who is lost. What kind of love is this? It is the unfailing love of God who seeks out the sick, the needy, the lost and down trodden, the hurting, oppressed, the afflicted in body and spirit so that no one, none should perish. It is only the willful rejection of this unconditional love that man dies. Without the relationship with God, there is no life.
How often do I have to remind myself these spiritual revelations when I find myself in the desert, alone, lonely, hurting, and in despair? “My God, my God why have you deserted me?” But God is not asleep and He hears the cries of His people. It’s just hard to listen to the small still voice when everything seems to be collapsing.
Where do I run and seek shelter but in the bosom of God’s embrace? Lord God help me for I am a sinner. It is easy for me to forget your goodness when things are not going my way. But it should never be my way; only yours that will straighten my path. You are with me always leading me along through the aridity of my heart, watering it with precious drops of your blood sacrificed in Calvary; that I may live and endure through my afflictions, that I may be healed.
