Newness of mind and spirit

“And do not choose to be conformed to this age, but instead choose to be reformed in the newness of your mind, so that you may demonstrate what is the will of God: what is good, and what is well-pleasing, and what is perfect.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭CPDV‬‬

It is difficult to control our thoughts.  Sometimes our meanderings lead us to a place of doubt and fear.  At other times, our thoughts reveal its fruition through our words and deeds.

How do we reform the mind so that it will do our bidding in conformity with our divine and not our fallen nature?  Every thought that permeates the recesses of our mind constitute a choice.  When we are assailed by thoughts that take us to a dark place, we should choose to seek the light.

The grace of God alone can fortify our human strength.  It is through prayers and sacraments, sacrifice and alms giving (charitable acts), that we can renew our minds.  When we fill our life with God’s words, partake in His life giving spiritual food through the sacraments, embrace suffering by offering these as our sacrifice in union with Jesus’ suffering on the cross, love without condition and expectations for reward can our will submit itself to what God wants.

Help me almighty Father to seek you in my thoughts, words, and deeds.
