Winter of Grief
"The shock and numbness that first shielded you have worn away. Now you must face head-on what lies all around you: all that you miss and all that you fear, all your sorrow and all your dread." (Miller, 1995)
It was like that at first when I felt the enormity of loss. It was as if I were in an island all by myself. But then I began to look around and there was our daughter also locked in her grief. Slowly, painfully, we reached out to each other. We found a common thread, a kindred voice, a union of spirits needing to fill each other's emptiness. And we began to heal together.
