At 62

Today marks what would have been your 62nd birthday.  I remembered past conversations about this milestone.  You told me that you were struggling to live until you reach 62 so you will be eligible for Medicare.  You expressed hopes for extending your life by tapping on social programs that would have paid for your medical care.  Even when you were dying you were concerned about the cost of your care and it’s impact on the family.  You were only thinking about your family’s welfare and not your own.

How I wish you are here today to celebrate your birthday.  Instead I celebrated it with you through the holy sacrifice of the mass.  The intentions of this mass were meant for you.  The prayers of the whole congregation were consecrated with you in mind and heart.  I prayed that wherever you are, you are at peace.  I will always love you.  Thank you for all your sacrifices and selflessness.
