A Push Scooter
You will be astonished at the new sport I decided to take on. Tired of riding the bicycle and walking by myself, I decided to buy a push scooter. It is a beauty, German engineered, light, and well constructed. I took it for a spin the first time around the neighborhood and you should see how the neighbors reacted.
Our neighbor Shannon stopped by and asked me if I was alright. I told her that I have taken a new sport to challenge my balance. She could not believe that I am “scootering” around the neighborhood determined to defy the cultural expectations for aging.
As a physical therapist with more than 25 years of experience, I understand that aging is a natural process and that it does not have to be a death sentence. I don’t see myself in a rocking chair any time soon. What I see is that I have work to do and to accomplish this work, I have to be physically conditioned.
So I remain active by stretching the longevity and quality of life. I physically challenge myself. I do not retreat from doing hard physical labor. Pushing myself to the limit only makes me strong. The limit is only what I set for myself and not some man-made standard. Be safe and just do it!
