Spirit Man
Today our neighbor Susan and her husband were walking their dog this morning. They stopped by when they saw me loading your computer books in your SUV. I told them I was going to give your computer books (648 in all) to goodwill. I thought somebody else may find these books useful. Her husband helped load a few more boxes of books into the car which was a blessing.
Susan told me how she was grateful for your boundless spirit. She and her husband called you the ‘Spirit Man’ because when you were alive, you always stopped by to greet people and lifted their spirits. Today I badly needed my spirit lifted and Susan returned that favor she received many times from you.
I know I am disposing of a lot of things in the house that belongs to you. The computer books for instance were your investments for lifelong learning. But what good are these books if no one else reads and learns from them? I would rather give these away so others may use them for their learning. I can’t hold on to things to memorialize you. That would be shallow. I want your spirit to continue to live on long after you are gone. This is how I honor you.
Your spirit lives on through people’s remembrance of you. I will always remember you not by the things you left behind but by the lessons I learned from you. Thank you.
