Giving Thanks

Today is Thanksgiving holiday - the first time I will spend without you.  What is there to look forward to today?  What is there to celebrate?  How do I start the day?

It begins with an attitude.  I can either wallow here in grief or I will get up with a smile on my face.  Attitude is paramount because it sets the tone and provides the impetus to move.  As I look out the window to watch daylight break, I begin to remember many things about you.

I saw you jogging in a flash - a ghostly figure carried by the wind.  You were always so full of energy.  I could not remember a time when you did not jog five miles even when the weather was bad.  That was how you met people in the neighborhood.  That was how they came to love you.

You were known as the jogger of Linthicum.  Everywhere you went in your jogging route, you stopped by to talk to people.  You just did not jog for your physical health. You did so because  you were the emissary of positive vibes.

People talked to you about their problems and you comforted them.  People told you about their good fortune and you celebrated with them.  People asked for advice and you offered kind words and shared your wisdom.  People told you they were lonely, and you gave them the time to listen and eased their loneliness.

I thank God for the time you were with us.  Everyday I heard you utter those words of thanks and praises to God no matter what was on your plate that day.  Through you, I learned the power of a grateful heart.  I learned to look at life focusing only on the blessings, the silver lining behind every storm, the positive energy that ultimately carried me to the next step in my journey.

Today just by remembering how you were you already brightened my day.  You are like the sun piercing through my soul filling my emptiness with joy.  Thank you!
